Quick Facts

Status
Primary Upper Body Combative.

Objective
The Palm Strike is one of my favorite Medium-Range upper-body combatives. It uses the hard surface of the heel of your palm and can be executed in a variety of ways against a variety of targets. For today's focus, I am going to be featuring the classic Straight Palm Strike and you will see that striking with the heel of your palm is much safer and makes you less prone to injury than striking with the knuckles of your fist.

Timing
This is a great default upper body combative to use when you are able to reach the attacker's face.

Note
Keep your Survival Stance upper body position as the start and end to each combative. By practicing to return your upper body to your guarded position, you will avoid exposing vulnerable areas on your own body. In addition DO NOT bounce or “prepare” for your combative—just go straight into it so you can be less telegraphic in your movement.

Curl the fingers back, flex the striking hand’s wrist so you expose the heel of that palm. Continue to extend your arm until your elbow is slightly bent and make sure you engage that powerful Combative Twist behind the movement to maximize the power that you are generating.
