Striking Factors

Target: Back of Head/Neck (primarily), Face (if it becomes available), Collarbone (if you can reach it and especially when holding an improvised weapon)

Surface Area: Outer surface of fist (between pinky knuckle and side of wrist joint)

Range of Motion: Combative Twist

Combative Range: Medium/Close Range

Status
Primary Upper Body Strike.

Objective
The Downward Hammer Fist is a strike variation that is mostly used against the back of the head/neck of the attacker (after his body has come forward from striking the groin) or to the face while defending on the ground. This is also a great combative to use while holding an improvised weapon such as a tactical pen or our self-defense keychain.

Timing
You can use this combative when you are in the Medium to Close Range or on the ground.

How To

Below is a step-by-step breakdown.

Step 1 (Front)

Start in your Survival Stance.

Step 2 (Front)

Raise your Near side hand just above eye level and create a 90 degree bend at the elbow joint. Curl your fingers in with your thumb across the outside to turn your hand into a fist so that you can prepare to use the side of the fist as a surface area. Make sure your fist and wrist are in line. Please don’t over twist this preparation with your body.

Step 3 (Front)

Begin to rotate your body using your Combative Twist and lining up the side of your fist to strike through the target.

Step 4 (FRONT)

Drive the side of your fist down through the target.

Step 5 (FRONT)

As soon as you strike through the target, immediately return to your Survival Stance.

Step 1 (Back)

Start in your Survival Stance.

Step 2 (BACK)

Raise your Rear side hand just above eye level and create a 90 degree bend at the elbow joint. STEP 4 (BACK)

Drive the side of your fist down through the target.

STEP 5 (BACK)

As soon as you strike through the target, immediately return to your Survival Stance.
